OUR HISTORY

Busselton Hospice Care Inc. began in 1989 as a group of health professionals dedicated to providing the best possible end of life care to the community.

In 2000, a two bed Hospice Unit was opened in Craig Street, West Busselton to provide in-patient hospice care. This project was the result of a partnership between the Silver Chain Nursing Service, WA Country Health Services and Busselton Hospice Care Inc.

The Hospice Unit was built from local fundraising and supplemented by WA Department of Health.

For fifteen years, in-patient care was supported by Busselton Hospice Care Inc. and funded by the local community. These funds supported the employment of experienced palliative care nursing staff to provide coordination and care in the Hospice Unit and those at home in the community and management of the Hospice volunteer program.

In 2015, the Busselton Health Campus was opened by the WA Country Health Service. A 4 bed Hospice unit was incorporated into the campus along with the Health Services Coastal Palliative Care Nursing service. Busselton Hospice Care Inc. continues to manage the Hospice volunteer program for the Busselton Health campus Hospice Unit.

In 2016, Busselton Hospice Care Inc. refurbished the previous Hospice building in Craig Street, West Busselton. This has been renamed and is the Geographe Bay Centre, Centre for Excellence in Palliative Care. This is where all our administration and programs are delivered.

Our focus continues to be providing a quality Hospice volunteer program for the Hospice Unit, in addition to developing other programs and services to support the community with end of life issues.
