GBC Garden Project

The Geographe Bay Centre Garden Team consists of keen and enthusiastic community members who volunteered to refurbish the gardens for the newly opened Palliative Care Centre, to provide a comforting haven for people receiving our palliative and bereavement support services.

In 2016, this small group which consists of members from the Bay Garden Club, past members of the Hospice Garden Team and other community members, worked together to establish a low maintenance and water wise garden to complement our unique location near the shoreline of the Geographe Bay.

With the guidance of a local environmental botanist and the assistance and generosity from local businesses this vision has been completed.

Ever since the original Hospice Unit opened in 2000, families have gifted many roses in memory of their loved ones and these were planted throughout the original garden.  As part of the refurbishment, these roses have been relocated to a ‘Rose Zone’ as the team wanted to retain and honour the history of our community of volunteers that cared for the dying in the original hospice from 2000 – 2015 and also meet the vision for a sustainable garden.
